Robolympics 2004
Robolympics as a tournament was a bust for us. Wait, wait, and more waiting. We had 5 bots entered and still the time between bouts seemed forever.

On the plus side - as a show Robolympics ROCKED! Robots of every shape and size: climbing ropes, playing soccer, sumo wrestling, walking, race walking, you name it, they were there. We were well entertained - but still someone always had to hang at the bench in case (for that) fight call.

Kick-me Kate’s new titanium wedge proved too low for the arena and got stuck several times. KO to the arena in the first bout - thank you Scratch for being sporting about it. A change back to the folded aluminium front end diamond plate just accentuated the uncontrolability of Kate. The frontal drag was a designed necessity to keep from the bot from over-rotating. Without it we couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. Out pointed and out of the competition for us in round two.

Kick-me ‘Mo did somewhat better. Via several bye rounds he worked his way up the winners bracket. He finally faced Killabyte (a full body spinner) in round three. Crash, bang, and we knew we were with the big boys. End result: lethal destruction to ‘Mo - pack it up, put it in a box.

Our ant Kick-in-the-bot also proved peppy but uncontrollable (I’m beginning to see a pattern to the HR designs). One, two and it was out.

The Beetles fared better winning a couple of rounds. Kudos to ST and his boys for keeping up the team image. At least someone won.

Funny thing is that because of all the veterans attending and already pre-qualifying, ‘Mo (taking 6th place) is also now qualified for the Nationals! Weird. but hey we’re not going to complain.  Scrape together what is salvageable and back to the drawing board. Try something different this time.
